Skin Cancer is Australia’s national cancer:

  • We have the highest per capita rates of melanoma in the world
  • Two in three of us will be diagnosed with a skin cancer by the time we turn 70
  • The annual cost of treating skin cancer is over $1.2 billion

Skin cancer is a pressing health concern in Australia. This stark reality is the backdrop for the new film Conquering Skin Cancer, which gives an insight into the challenges of diagnosis, treatment and the emotional toll that comes with such a life-altering experience.

The film not only sheds a light on the personal struggles associated with melanoma and skin cancer but also serves as a call to action, highlighting the urgent need for awareness, education, early detection, self examination and of course treatment in a country where the sun shines bright but so do the risks of skin cancer.

The film features many members of Australia’s Skin Cancer community, including Tamara Dawson, the founder of the Melanoma & Skin Cancer Advocacy Network (MSCAN) and MSCAN’s Community Action Team member, Doug. You can see some of Tamara and Doug’s interviews on the YouTube channel here.
