Melanoma is the third most common cancer in Australia for both women and men.
Melanoma begins in cells known as melanocytes. The main cause of melanoma is exposure to ultraviolet (UV) radiation. The risk of developing melanoma grows with the amount of UV exposure, especially each time you experience sunburn. It can be years and even decades before any signs of melanoma begins so it is important for all ages and all skin types to reduce UV exposure.
